Old fire engine

Old fire engine
Because of big fire at Finlayson factory in 1870, this heavy duty fire engine was bought from England in 1874. It served not only the Finlayson factory but also the city of Tampere for many decades. It's last service was during 1939 "Winter War", to put down fires caused by aerial bombing. In 1962 it became a museum relic and finally moved outside to the current place next to Frenckell's old factory buildings.

The fire engines like this were first powered by steam engines in 19th century. Then in 20th century they became powered by diesel or electric engines. This pump was able to move 1500 liters of water per minute with six atmospheric air pressure.

The secret is to change the image width on the code from 240 to 180 pixels, and add a space between images on the same row ;-)

I heard you are having problems with Ipernity uploads. We are trying to figure out what could cause it. We had that temporary hiccup week before, but since that at least I have had no issues. If you wish, you can discuss about it here:

1500 ltr per minute, that's a lot of water; even more when you realize the age of this impressive machinery, good job Sami!

Nice series. How did this work? Was it just a pump or was it portable?
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Esther club
Thank you, Esther. Yes, this "part" in the image is actually just the pump. The machine to power it was needed as well. I am not sure, but I believe it was first supposed to be only stationary, standing in the middle of factory courtyard like this:
Old factory buildings
These buildings are just next to rapids going through Tampere. So, getting water was not a problem.
Tammerkoski
But similar engines have been portable as well, and it was a very dangerous job to move them around.

Actually "fire pump" may have been more accurate to describe this:

This is really a very nice old museum piece. The yellow autumn leaves shine in the photo very decorative and atmospheric to the subject. Also the old brick building fits great as a background. The photos with the details of the machine are also very well done and you've put them in a very attractive collage for us.

Changed the upload date to bump up this image, to demonstrate what one can do here at ipernity.

1) I retrospectively created an album for all images of this machine.
2) I changed all links on small images on collage to direct onto album instead. A little against "rules" not to change such image codes. But still directs to source in context.
3) On collage images I have "manually" changed the size a little by downsizing 240 images to 180 pixel wide and tall images. The horizontal cap between images can be achieved by just adding a space key hit between the image codes.

So, start with link code, then images, and finally close the link.
