Two superb photos Rosa................the riverside walk looks lovely and I see there was still some autumnal colour in the trees when you took this shot. A beautiful cottage too.........I wonder if passers-by know it's history. I'm surprised it hasn't got a blue plaque!

Just out of interest I Googled the location and found some images of the cottage and riverside taken in years gone by...........there's one taken in 1908 from almost the same perspective : freepages.rootsweb.com/~fordingtondorset/genealogy/Files2/Dorchestermodernhangman.html

Thank you very much Keith. Just a stones throw from the High Street and like a different world! There is a large plaque along the river with information about the wildlife and about Hangman's Cottage. As you see from your link, the cottage is quite long, as it goes around the bend, but I don't remember seeing a blue plaque on it. It looks even better in the summer with all the greenery around it.

You're right dear Adele ;-) I can imagine Thomas Hardy walking along the river to the cottage. It is probably featured in one of his books! Ha ha, I would change the name if I lived there, but as it is a listed property, they are probably not allowed to.

That's not a problem Doug. Thank you for your kind comment. In the summer this location is especially beautiful with the surrounding trees. The rain has been about average for the time of year. Up by the town bridge there is a measurement stick, so I guess there has been flooding there in the past.
