Not sure why, when they are still everywhere n village fetes and in funfairs in France and Spain, I stopped seeing these at all in the UK many years ago. It seems all of a sudden they just vanished and this was when I was young enough to still badly want to go on them as before! Glad to see this one. Easily the most fun thing in any funfair! Great shot and she's having a great time!

I don't know why that would be Andy. They were always present when the fairs came for all the local carnivals around here. They were my favourite as a child...it made me think I could drive ;-))

I am seriously puzzled now, Rosa! I assumed it was some king of new nannyish regulation! But at about the age of 12, and at the height of my funfair and dodgem prowess, they vanished from the London area. We used to frequent the famous (and seriously seedy - at one time anyway) Battersea Funfair and later the enormous street fair in Pinner Middlesex. No dodgems! The same with the fair at Redbourne Herts and a few others we used to go to. We all commented on the sad demise of the dodgem car, Fairs just weren't the same!
So were you and I living in some kind of parallel universe or time-warp?
The more I think about it the more puzzled I get!

I am mystified Andy! They were at every fairground I had/have ever been to! Perhaps you London boys were a bit rough on them ;-) It was a good place to see who you fancied or who fancied you...lots of bumping taking place! Never dodged them in my time!! Happy Birthday by the way!!

I c an't explain it either, Rosa but I was fortunate because I didn't miss out. Most summers I went to the South of France (school exchange programme) and every village had it's summer festival and there would be at least one funfair in the locality and they all had dodgem cars.
By the way, I'm 4-5 days behind with commenting on others' photos (and it's getting worse). I will catch up eventually; I always do!

Cool collage, Sophie and the other kids seem to have lots of fun! And I have learnt a new word;-) In our area we called them Boxauto but I never did try it out because money was tight when I was a kid.

These rides have become expensive now but this little place for the younger ones is quite reasonable. I wish you a good and sunny weekend :-))
