Oh you botonists! I never can recall the botanical names. I know this as St. Johns Wort.

They are wonderful flowers - a needed brightness that blossoms in the shade!

And the Hypericum is lovely. Theses flowers shine from dark corners even and they give such wonderful photographic opportunities! I’m fascinated by them

Thank you, and it is, isn't it?

I just learned that english name for it! We call it "St John's Wort".

Andy Rodker club has replied to raingirl club
Ah yes, Pam told you!
But you might have recalled it from the name of one of the daughters in Steinbeck's 'The Grapes of Wrath'. although (from memory) he spelt it as they would have pronounced it, 'Rosasharn'.

There are so many books I haven't read - I'm usually too busy eyeing things to photograph! Well, that's my excuse anyway... But very interesting!

thank you so much.

these have wandered around my backyard. when we bought this house, 23 years ago (yikes!), they were all along the south side under heavy overhead coverage against a fence. then one year they just up and died. i thought they were gone, then now, a number of years later, they have shown up on the western edge, again near the fence.

St John's Wort is the only way I know them! Thanks to comments, I've learned their botanical name and the English name - ha! I didn't realize how educational ipernity was!! *wink*

Yes we help each other for those elusive name's or common ones. You can get them from the Health Shops here beneficial , for Depression, Nervousness, Tiredness , Poor Appetite, Trouble Sleeping. But of course best to check that are suitable for ones condition as we are all different. Have a good week Laura !!

I knew the health benefits before I knew the flower name. I think just having them grow in my yard is healthy for my mind!

Lovely details on this St.John's wort. This is the cultivated shrubby variety and can grow in sun or shade. There are wilder cousins with much smaller flowers, one of which is the common Hypericum perforatum, which, when held up against the light. appears to have perforations in the leaves.
