Hard to find a spot on my walls without something by my mother. The flower painting here is hers. The photo is by lawatt (on flickr) - I purchased it from her.
In the dark on the top shelf is a cutout by my daughter.

This was hard to pick. We have tons of art everywhere in our house. This is the neatest place - most is a mish mash, but very viewable to me!

Phil Sutters, , Berny, Gillian Everett and 24 other people have particularly liked this photo

Your mother is very talented! Such a beautiful flower painting! Do I see a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash and a Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash camera in the shadows?

Thank you - she is indeed. She's the one who taught me photography, her dad worked for Eastman Kodak, but she's always been a sketcher and in the last 20 years (she's 96 now), she's been painting.

And yes - you do see those cameras! I really want to photograph with them again. They both work nicely (though no flash - which I don't like anyway).

So glad you like it. I love her work. She has a great eye (and did for photography when she was doing that - she taught me!)

Thanks - yes, she has a great ability. She was a photography first (though was always sketching), and when she was no longer steady enough or strong enough to handle the cameras, she moved to painting. I am a lucky recipient of many of her works.

Have a great week!

Very nice indeed Laura..............I especially like the piece by your Mother - she must be very talented.

The shadowed area intrigues me............I too get a glimpse of a couple of old cameras!

thank you! My mother has been multi talented over the years. Painting is what keeps her going now (she's 96). She started as a photographer, taught by her father who worked at Eastman Kodak. They had a darkroom in their basement.

Ah, another person finds the ol cameras - I'll have to post a photo of them, instead of just a tease of them like here.

Thank you. She is indeed. She started as a photographer - she taught me - her dad taught her. Now, at 96, she is driven by painting.

I used to be called "Lara" (with an emphasis on the soft 'a' sounds) by my mom's helper when I was growing up - it's the only variation of my name that I ever accepted. So I'm really picky! (Just kidding - I figured it was a typo. And I'm so terrible at remembering people's names, that I never get upset if someone goofs mine.)

Love the composition and the light and dark contrasted, Laura. Personally, I feel a creative mishmash of art is the best way to decorate walls, shelves, crannies and whatnot! :D

raingirl club has replied to Annalia S.
Thanks - I tried to be sure the dark had enough there so people could see what was on the shelves, but not so much to take away from the focus of the photo.

Oh, you'd love my house!! Do you put a lot of things on your walls as well?

Thanks - she is a wonderful artist (I should post a better picture of this, or maybe of some of her other works). I am lucky having lots of art around - always surprised to walk into someone's house and see almost nothing on the walls.
