Anemone

02 Sep 2023 24 26 98
Taken in my garden. I've been testing a new (to me) camera and lens lately, which I bought as a very lightweight combination to carry around occasionally. The lens is not a dedicated macro lens, but it has a "macro function" activated by pressing a button on the side. It actually does a pretty good job! I hope you're all having a good weekend.

Grasshopper Nymph (+PiP)

I spotted this little green creature in amongst the leaves of my lilac tree. I managed two photos only before it hopped off onto the lawn and away. Better viewed large if you have time. Thanks for looking.

Anemones

The flowers were kindly donated by my lovely neighbour. Photographed indoors in natural light.

Worthing Pier, West Sussex (+5 PiPs)

04 Aug 2023 21 28 95
Taken during a day trip early last month. Sorry for the large number of PiPs, but I thought these would work better as a series. Please feel free to ignore them if you wish (not that I'd know anyway)! The PiPs include a couple of views taken from the pier looking back towards the beach. The pier is a Grade 2 listed building and was built in 1862. More history here for anyone who is interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worthing_Pier

Amorous goings on in my garden, on the edge of a flower pot!

Be afraid..............be very afraid..!! Have a nice week everyone..............and be careful out there!

Everlasting Sweet Peas

24 Aug 2023 27 34 99
These perennial sweet peas lack the fragrance of the annual version, but are just as lovely looking! My neghbour kindly allowed me to pick the flower and I took it indoors to photograph. I hope you like it.

Goldenrod Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) (+PiPs)

21 Aug 2023 19 27 87
Taken in my garden.........and this time I actually had my macro lens on the camera! PiP No 1.... is another shot of this beautiful Crab Spider. PiP No 2.....is a shot of a Common Candy-striped Spider (Enoplognatha ovata) with its egg case (I found this one in a curled up leaf of my lilac tree, which I managed to carefully roll back enough to get the shot (and of course I returned it to it's curled up state afterwards). Thanks for looking.

Miserable weather yesterday and I was left unsupervised again...........not a good combination :-))) Have a good Friday everyone and a splendid weekend..!!

Heart

27 Jul 2023 16 20 78
I have no idea what plant this seed head is from..........but I love that it is in the shape of a heart! Edit 24th Aug. Thanks to Amelia (below) I now believe this is an Allium seed head.

Garden Spider (Arenas diadematus)

22 Aug 2023 17 22 91
This is the commonest and most well known of the Orb Web spiders..........and I found it, funnily enough, in my garden. I would have liked to have got an overhead shot, but it refused to cooperate. The background is a rather grubby panel on the wall underneath one of our back windows,. Best viewed large if you can bear it..!! I normally have dozens of these in my garden at this time of year, but this is one of only 3 or 4 I've seen so far :-(

Juvenile Wren (+Pips)

17 Aug 2023 28 33 98
I've known there was a Wren visiting my garden for quite a while now, but although I've seen it, I've never been able to get a photo........until this day when I was in the garden and actually had my camera with me. Not the best lens, but I didn't want to miss the photo by going back indoors to grab my 100-400mm zoom, so this little set are all cropped., Please check out the PiPs as well if you have time, one of them includes an adult bird feeding a grasshopper nymph to the juvenile. All photos were taken on a woodpile in the corner of my garden, which I leave to attract wildlife. Thanks for looking.

Cowdray Estate, Midhurst, West Sussex

19 Aug 2023 19 28 73
Some of the cottages and other buildings found in the grounds of the Cowdray House Ruins, on the Cowdray Estate, Midhurst, West Sussex. The small building on the right is a store house (hat was probably used for grain). The little mushroom-like legs it's standing on are called Staddle Stones and were designed to help guard against water seepage and vermin. Better viewed large for detail. There is a close-up shot of the grain store in the PiP. Thanks for looking.

In memoriam...........Andy Rodker

24 Jan 2009 28 21 199
Sadly, I never met Andy in real life, but through our interaction here on Ipernity I became to think of him as a friend. My thoughts go out to his Family and friends in England and in Spain and to everyone who knew him on Ipernity. May he rest in peace.

A visit to Cowdray ruins. World Photography Day 2…

19 Aug 2023 20 35 107
A bit of a disappointment to be honest. My wife and I always try to get out and about together, but we're unable to get too far off road nowadays which is why we decided on this location. The car park is close by to where we're standing. We arrived to find the the ruins were completely fenced off. In addition the Walled Garden and Tea Rooms had been closed down. However, I still managed to get a few photos and it was good to get out in the fresh air. We ended up going out for lunch nearby and still had a decent day out and at least the rain held off :-)) A bit of history: Cowdray House consists of the ruins of one of England's great Tudor houses, architecturally comparable to many of the great palaces and country houses of that time. It is situated in the Parish of Easebourne, just east of Midhurst, West Sussex standing on the north bank of the River Rother. It was largely destroyed by fire on 24 September 1793, but the ruins have nevertheless been Grade I listed.
