Wonderful lighting caught here Keith. Strange derelict building. I don't know this Island. Well done.

Thanks very much Herb.........always appreciated. The derelict building is pretty much all that is left of what used to be Fraser Gunnery Range, owned by the Royal Navy. The range closed in the late 70s and the site became an Admiralty Research Establishment until closing completely in 2006. It is now being demolished to build much needed housing.

Hayling Island is a small island situated between Portsmouth and Chichester harbours and linked to the mainland by both road bridge and ferry. www.visit-hampshire.co.uk/explore/towns/hayling-island

A fabulous sky here Keith. Love how the light seems to hover over the derelict building - is that something to do with the old Fraser Range? HFF and have a good weekend

Well spotted Carol..........yes you're right - this is pretty much all that is left of Fraser Gunnery Range. The range closed in the late 70s and the site became an Admiralty Research Establishment until closing completely in 2006. It is now being demolished to build much needed housing.

Glad you like the photo, and thanks.

What a pity that the building seems to be abandoned, because they must have a great view from there... HFF Keith.

A beautifully composed image with a lovely sense of melancholy. The sky is particularly appealing with the patches of sunlight among the clouds and the rays falling around the decaying building.

Lovely, melancholy bluish light! Looked this up on GMaps, there's a gorgeous star fort beyond this scene (took awhile to find), which of course you know!

Thanks very much Diane. Glad you like it.

The Portsmouth area has a huge amount of forts, both on land and at sea. We're spoiled for choice sometimes :-)
