Waiting for the Tide

Waiting for the Tide
It's documentation in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is proof that the port at Porlock Weir has been in existance for over a thousand years and as one of the few places small ships can land along the rugged Exmoor coast it has had a varied history.
The huge tidal range in the Bristol Channel means everything is left high and dry at low water while the houses in the image which are on the shingle bank between sea and harbour regularly have sand bags at the ready.

A beautiful image with lovely soft light. I like all the different coloured boats and the houses on the shoreline are very attractive, especially the one with the thatch. I dread to think how many times they've been flooded!

Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Keith Burton club
Many thanks Keith, Sandbags always appear to be on standby and from what I am able to understand they were five in number all thatched originally but have been altered to three with the remaining thatched one now a holiday let.

Sarah P. club has replied to Roger (Grisly) club
They may need more than sandbags given the expected rise of the sea level. :-(

Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Sarah P. club
Thank you Sarah, I'm sure you are correct they are listed on the highest flood risk tables
