Rhyne's & Droves

The Sedgemoor corner of the Somerset levels where drainage ditches are called Rhynes (local spelling) and roads both tarmac and dirt are Droves, This is Jacks Drove and it crosses Totney Drove at a junction in the distance,

Lovely perspective, Roger. I love the water courses, the path and the trees all converging towards the horizon. In Scots, a drainage ditch is called a 'sheuch'. In Scotland this word has another meaning that I won't mention on here. LOL. Best wishes, Joe

Buena profundidad de principio a final. Para mí es curioso que a ambos márgenes del camino (Drove) corran esas zanjas (Rhynes) con agua a poco de la carretera, que hace temer que pueda inundarla y dificultar el tránsito rodado, cosa que estará estudiada para que no ocurra. Buena tarde Roger.

Many thanks, It has an area of 650 km² and is mainly below high tide level but subject to flooding during winter (remedial works are in hand) It has been inhabited since neolithic times and includes the Isle of Avalon.
