Well, one set of legs certainly stands out! Droll shot, well seen!

Thanks, Bob. This view struck me as droll when I noticed it, too. She appears to be so short no one's noticed her.

Thanks, Ulrich. I thought there was a lot to see in here, so I'm interested in what other people see.

The legs have it. But otherwise invisible I reckon.

I sense a bit of a conundrum here - should they or shouldn't they notice The Legs?

Well spotted and taken!

I suspect most of them couldn't see them, Maggs.

Apart from the legs, it's a marked crossing so why are they all waiting?

Streetlights override stripes here, George. Although they are free to cross outside the stripes as long as they don't obstruct traffic.

Thanks, John. It was the stripes that threw me - we have either stripes or walk lights, but not together.

At first I thought this was one group of men, but it's actually two groups -- one of trad. businessmen in suits, another of a bunch of techies wearing their uniforms of khakis and shirts. Plus two loners at the margins. The woman in the middle is not being seen, I would guess, because she belongs to neither class and is thus invisible, legs or no legs.

Interesting thoughts, Sarah. I hoped people would have them. At first what I saw here was a keyhole shot -- not the correct photographic term but the name of a type of book-cover illustration. Anyway, the men form the keyhole through which you can see the woman.

Later I realized there were many ways to interpret this. Even the keyhole idea lends itself to further analysis (Foucaultians are probably revving up their male-gaze engines, for example).

I prefer to think of it as, ahem, multiconceptual. I was only aware of one concept when I took it, but as Sol LeWitt said "The artist may not necessarily understand his own art. His perception is neither better nor worse than that of others."

I believe the correct photographic name is something like frame-within-a-frame. Keyhole is easier to remember.

Clever shot John.................I think Sarah P's comments sum it up better than I could.

I suspect all those young men would be appalled if anyone suggested they should wear a uniform to work..............but essentially, in their own little groups, that is what they do :-)

As Frank Zappa observed, Keith, we're all wearing uniforms and shouldn't kid ourselves. But I say who can we kid if we can't kid ourselves?

My favourite uniform item in this district is the senior executive shave. A lot of the older fellows in expensive suits look as if their faces have been polished and buffed. Maybe they wax.
