Zeit der Bläulinge - Time of the blues

On sunny, windless days in August, some species of blue butterflies can be observed again, such as this pretty Reverdin's blue (Plebejus argyrognomon), which likes to fly in warm meadows with crown vetch (Coronilla varia) growth. It is one of the few species of blue butterflies that have these striking blue-metallic shimmering spots on the underside (see note). As the species name suggests, the caterpillar eats crown vetch leaves and probably lives in symbiosis with ants, which defend the caterpillars and eat a secretion that the caterpillar produces.
