BEAUTIFUL GIRLS
|
|
|
|
In our graves we are all
beautiful girls. Our skin
is falling away like the tide.
Our bones are
long and slender,
all inhibitions gone. We're
lovely in the mud
that fit boys have dug
for a council wage,
not knowing how beautiful
we lay there
like honeymoon brides
anticipating sex
not expecting death,
serene as pawns and queens
and home in ourselves
forever.
////
BELAS RAPARIGAS
Somos todas belas
em nossas sepulturas. A pele
cai-nos como a maré.
Nossos ossos ficam
mais compridos e delgados,
foram-se todas as inibições. Estamos
encantadoras na lama
que rapazes atléticos cavaram
por um ordenado fixo
ignorando quão bonitas
somos lá deitadas
como noivas em lua de mel
ansiosas por sexo
sem esperar a morte,
serenas como peões e rainhas
e em nossa própria casa
para sempre.

Cranes at the dock unload goods and I love you.
Isolated men walk the avenues and I love you.
Electric silences sparkle inside machines and I love you.
Destruction against chaos, destruction against chaos and I love you.
Bodies reflections are disfigured in the shop window and I love you.
Years are getting older in the forgetfulness of warehouses and I love you.
The destiny of the whole city is the night and I love you.

Gruas no cais descarregam mercadorias e eu amo-te.
Homens isolados caminham nas avenidas e eu amo-te.
Silêncios eléctricos faíscam dentro das máquinas e eu amo-te.
Destruição contra o caos, destruição contra o caos e eu amo-te.
Reflexos de corpos desfiguram-se nas montras e eu amo-te.
Envelhecem anos no esquecimento dos armazéns e eu amo-te.
Toda a cidade se destina à noite e eu amo-te.

In 2012, Florike EGMOND discovered an enthralling collection of 16th century drawings and watercolours of animals, collected by the founding father of zoology, Conrad GESSNER, hidden away in the Amsterdam University Library.

In our quarter's garden
weeds grow among flowers
and invade the bandstand
where our discontentment
is out of tune.

No jardim do nosso bairro
ervas daninhas medram entre flores
e invadem o coreto
onde desafina a banda
do nosso descontentamento.

Times are changing, wills are changing
Being is changing, confidence is changing:
The whole world is made of change,
Always gaining new qualities.

Mudam-se os tempos, mudam-se as vontades
Muda-se o ser, muda-se a confiança:
Todo o mundo é composto de mudança,
Tomando sempre novas qualidades.
