Öskurhóll
Öskurhóll (roaring hill) is a fumarole with sinter mound in Hveravellir geothermal area. It makes a constant loud noise like a tea kettle gone mad. In the background Bláhver hot spring can be seen.

Öskurhóll (brüllender Hügel) ist eine Fumarole mit Sinterhügel im Hochtemperaturgebiet Hveravellir, die ständig pfeift wie ein wildgewordener Teekessel. Im Hintergrund sieht man die heiße Quelle Bláhver.

Wenn man das Bild um 90° nach links dreht, dann bläst an der Öffnung aus einem kleinen Gesicht mit gelber Haarmähne der Schwefeldampf raus...

Besten Dank, Ulrich! In Indonesien muss es noch viel unmittelbarer sein, weil die meisten Vulkane jederzeit hochgehen können! Hier bestand keine unmittelbare Gefahr;-)

Thanks a ot, Amelia! Geothermal areas are such fun, I feel I never have enough time to view everything. We saw a dead bird in the area with no outward injuries, I suppose it must have come too near a fumarole and died of the gases...

Thank you so much, Adele! We took an 18day organized tour which included all the big highland crossings. We saw lots but always wished we had more time...You will have to return to Iceland;-)

Herzlichen Dank, Volker! Das Hügelchen ist kleiner als ich, ca. 1m vielleicht. Näher als auf dem Foto kannst (solltest) du nicht ran, der Untergrund ist instabil. Bislang haben die Isländer auf den gesunden Menschenverstand der Besucher gesetzt, aber mit steigenden Touristenzahlen scheinen den viele am Flughafen abgegeben zu haben. Windabwärts nahe am Geysir stehen und sich über Verbrühungen wundern....;-)
