Kjalvegur

Highland route 35 (Kjalvegur) traverses the highlands from north to south, starting near Blönduós and leading over the Kjölur plateau between Langjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers to Gullfoss. Since all rivers have been bridged, the 168 km long mountain road can now also be used by normal cars though it is like washboard in many places.

Thanks, Graham! Your comment about a breakdown reminded me that we met a jeep with a flat tyre- but nothing they couldn't repair themselves;-) Anyway- the phone numbers for the rescue services are well known and they'll come with their superjeeps to drag cars out of rivers... you might end up with a fine, though.

Tausend Dank, Maik! Für die 168km Piste braucht man im Schnitt 5 Stunden- es ist eine der "guten" Strassen im Hochland, wo sogar ein Linienbus fährt.

Besten Dank, Lutz! Dass nicht immer alle neuen Fotos angezeigt werden, ist wohl schon eine Weile so-und es folgt keiner Logik...Irgendetwas wird da im Hintergrund gearbeitet, sonst gäbe es nicht mitunter diese Aussetzer, wo alles einfriert. Aber kein Vergleich zu Pano, das mich nur noch nervt;-)

In deinen Islandbildern kann man sich verlieren,, Gudrun. Das geht Dir wahrscheinlich auch so in der realen Landschaft. Ich klick und lese mich hier schon seit fast einer Stunde durch und bin sehr begeistert (Island war eigentlich schon immer mein Traum).
Dieses Bild nehm ich jetzt mal als Geburtstagsgeschenk mit (Sternchen), weil es an meinem 70. Geburtstag entstanden ist!

Ganz herzlichen Dank, Klaus! Vielleicht kannst du dir irgendwann ein nachträgliches Geburtstagsgeschenk in Island machen- das Land würde dich sicher auch nicht mehr loslassen! Leider steigt die Krone derzeit unaufhörlich und das eh teure Island wird immer teurer:-( Ich hoffe darauf, dass sich der Trend wieder umkehrt....
