View from the pass over Hrafnseyrarheiði back to Arnarfjörður. This is one of the highest road passes (552m) in Iceland which is usually impassable in winter. The new road (still unsurfaced) is an improvement on the dangerous old road which can be seen in the middle of the photo.
A new tunnel (Dýrafjarðargöng) was opened in 2010, saving 27km and avoiding the difficult pass.

Herzlichen Dank, Ulrich! Die Strasse und die Aussicht waren super, nur konnte ich das Objektiv nicht so schnell trockenwischen wie die Regentropfen kamen;-) Schönen Wochenbeginn!

Haha, in Island ist's zum Glück nur der echte Dreck;-) Ja, bei solchen Strassen ist 4x4 nicht schlecht, obwohl man hier auch mit normalen Autos fahren darf.

Vielen Dank, Iris! Unser Bus hatte ja Allradantrieb, den hat er hier aber nicht mal gebraucht;-) Und die alte Strasse muss wesentlich schlimmer gewesen sein...

Danke vielmals, Lutz! Ja gell:-) Die Tunnels sind auch so, nur grob aus dem Fels gehauen, es tropft... Das Schrägste ist ein Tunnel, der mittendrin eine Abzweigung hat, immerhin wurde der danach sogar zweispurig;-)
