Wow - I hadn't realised that you could see Mars this clearly. I'll have to wait for another clear night and see if I can make it out myself

Thank you, Jenny and thank you, PAM!
I look at this photo and I realise how bizarre my parents' house really is! From the street it looks tiny. But it extends back and back and back and up and up and up! (The Tardis would be a good analogy!)
On this photo the majority of the roof space is my parent's. it extends over the next door property and is legally known as a flying freehold (the two properties were originally one). There is also an adit mineshaft running below the house but that is under 50 feet of granite so OK! But I had to get a mortgage for my parents to get this place and that flying freehold was a bummer. In the end I found a lender willing to play ball; thankfully! 25 years on and they are still here (just!)

Glad they're hanging in there, Andy! We had to move my folks to an assisted-living facility last year and it's been a major adjustment for all concerned. They'd been living in a little house about a mile away but that just was no longer possible.

The imperative for me, my siblings and of course my parents is for them to stay there as long as possible. The Council and the NHS agree that it is less disruptive and more cost-effective to keep them where they are happy for as long as possible. The Provision of care at home is far cheaper for all concerned than putting them in a care home.
