The path down from EL Cancho Gordo.

The path down from EL Cancho Gordo.
Ahead is the ganitic lump of EL Cancho de La Bola, the home of most of the area's Griffon vultures.
October 1, and still searing heat; you can see the heat haze emanating from the plain below. Autumn arrived very late that year and the drought had become a major worry.

Wonderful earth colours in the rocks and I really like the golden yellow of the scorched grasses. It all makes for a beautiful, if parched, landscape. Well composed and taken Andy.

I meant to go back there yesterday, Keith but I missed the bus due to having to sit on a connecting metro train for 20 minutes for no reason that was given. So I hopped across to the other side of Madrid to the bus station for El Escorial as I knew they were more frquent and I would get there quicker anyway. So I had a good walk, just not in the mountains proper! (In fact I haven't been for a walk in the Sierra de La Cabrera for 9 months and they must be missing me! I'll wait for the May spring flower show now I think!)

What a lovely photo - how lovely to have it so hot at that late in the year

Today as well, Jenny! I started out with vest (undershirt to those who are Stateside), thick woollen shirt, Thick sweater, My thickest gloves and warmest scarf and a thick woolllen hoodie-like thing that looks ghastly but does the job!
It was absolutely essential ... until about 10:30 when I had to stop and get down to just me vest (undershirt)! The change in temperature was from - 5ºc whan I stepped off the bus to 18ºc only one-and-a-half hours later!
Many thanks and best wishes!

Great capture!
Must be impressive to walk a long.

Yes. It depends on the times of the last bus back to Madrid and when nightfall comes but I am experienced by now, just as I know how long I have with certain sea-shore rock hopping walks in Cornwall before the tide turns!
Scrambling along the crest of the whole ridge (of which this is 1/20) is a fabulous experience!
Many thanks, Poly!
