Andy Rodker club has replied to Marije Aguillo clubThis area is mainly granite!
It is known as the St Agnes 'inselberg,' a plug of granite that forms the entire St Agnes area from Chapel Porth just beyond the Wheal Coates tin mine, seen ahead and Cligga Head (about 3 miles behind me when taking this shot). It extends inland encompassing St Agnes Beacon, the town of St Agnes and 2-3 miles further inland. It lies within a 'sea' of other rocks such as Devonian sandstone and shale. I cannot state with certainty that all the rocks in the foreground and middle distance are granite and I agree that some look rather shale-like. But I know that granite predominates as I have climbed up and down these cliffs and also seen geological maps confirming it. I also post many photos of this area and when not in granite country (such as Porthcadjack, North Cliffs, Godrevy, etc) I am careful not to state 'granite' in my notes. As with the rest of Cornwall, the tin mines are closely associated with granite and especially near the margins of granite areas.
Have a good Sunday and week ahead . Are you having a 'puente' next week?
Best wishes,
Andy

Andy Rodker club has replied to slgwv clubBut, yes! I always buy a pocket-sized (and water-proofed) copy of Cornwall Tide Times - about the first thing I do on my all-too-infrequent trips home! Some of the best days weather-wise correspond to adverse tides or if everything co-incides perfectly on that front, I have to attend to family issues instead. On a 10 day trip that often means only one or two days out there!

Andy Rodker club has replied to JeanI will have to find a shot from here at low tide. Quite a difference, but the sand isn't anywhere near as extensive as the Solway Firth.
