St Ives Harbour, low tide

St Ives Harbour, low tide
I visit St Ives about once every five years - too touristy in August - but it is a delight out of season. Enlarge please!

Roger (Grisly), Dimas Sequeira, micritter, Marie-france Berthelé and 35 other people have particularly liked this photo

I can imagine a flurry of activity when the tide comes in. Lovely scene!

Also loved it out of season !

First hubby and i considered buying an engine House up on the cliffs not far off... it was just a bit out of our pocket sadly.

I guess the engine house would have been at Halsetown, a little to the west of St Ives. It's the closest mining area. Just up the road from there at Cripplesease, is a great little pub,'The Engine' named after a nearby engine house.

Such an impressive and delightful image ,Andy!
Boats resting quietly, almost dreaming on their bed of low tide..
Enlarging it I could enjoy a lot of details against the lovely background!
A very attractive invitation to go there, I must say!
All the best!

It is a beautiful place, Bea.
I would like to take photos of the old fishermen's cottages in the labyrinthine back streets(now often art galleries) but in August it's impossible as the streets are thronged with day-trippers and it's shoulder to shoulder stuff. When I used to visit out of season (ie when I lived not far from here), I didn't have a camera!
Silly me!

Had a long weekend there in the 1990's but have not been back since. Really enjoyed it though. It was in September so not so crowded. Lovely shot.

It's the incongruity of the 4x4 that gets me, Andy!
As you say not a place to be visited during grockle season!!

A lovely colourful image. At first glance the boats seem to have been randomly dropped on the mud and sand, but a closer look reveals they're actually moored in some semblance of order. Nice one Andy!

Many thanks, Roger. You will tell me won't you if you feel I'm perhaps bombing the group. I have no wish to do that!
