A little information about this place, which I found by just using the search words "Val sculptor Crescent City": www.roadsideamerica.com/story/50937 It's worth a read.

Cheryl Beal, Gabi Lombardo, Smiley Derleth, Bergfex and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

I dislike it when people can't be bothered to change their open / shut signs!
However it all looks a bit sad and very run down. Has it opened at all these past few years? All the art being lined up outside makes it look as if perhaps someone might have been expected to collect it after the gallery was forced out of business but the artist couldn't afford to rent a van to pick it up. Pure fantasy on my part but it does give a very depressing impression.
Do you know anything about the history of the gallery or the artist, Diane?
Excellent shot and interesting series anyway!

The shipping containers had clean, fresh paint, no signs of salt air wear and tear, so someone must be there some of the time. My overall impression was of someone with a chaotic way of expressing...whatever she is expressing. Nothing looked like it was made with a basic knowledge of art or the process of craftsmanship. I spent about 40 minutes there, alone, and finished with mixed feelings: amusement, distaste, sympathy and finally, respect for the attempts at expression.

No, I know nothing about it. In Google Earth the containers make their first appearance in 2005. The woodworking shop next door appears in 2003, but was probably there much earlier. (Imagery has a big gap from 1989 and 2003.) I remember driving by it several times over the years, but don't recall seeing the art gallery. The name Val, last name illegible in my shot, appears on the mailbox. LATER - Look what I found, and Val is a he: www.roadsideamerica.com/story/50937

Thanks Diane.
Pleased all our questions enticed you to delve deeper. Fascinating stuff! I wonder if the influence, accidental I'm sure, of some rather wacky substances over the years had any influence here? Just a hunch ... probably wrong!

I would say it's as likely as alien abduction!

Turns out this is all the work of an immigrant from Ukraine who reported his abduction by aliens. His artwork is an expression of that traumatic experience. ;-o

Well, it takes all kinds to make a world!

So how does an immigrant from the Ukraine, who has been abducted by aliens, end up in Crescent City? Maybe he was returned to earth on a tsunami!
Diane Putnam club has replied to Don Barrett (aka DBs… club
Well, he arrived long after the tsunami, so my guess is that they simply dropped him from above. I'm picturing a parachute-like contraption, but maybe aliens have more sophisticated means...
If you see him, would you please ask? Thanks.

You have an eye for the unusual (and downright weird) Diane...........and this little collection is no exception. Interesting (and odd) information in the link you thoughtfully provided.

Maybe being abducted by aliens and dropped back on earth would explain a certain D. Trump, or at least his hairstyle?

If this is a sculpture of the artist, he needs urgendly a little support! Or at least an opulent meal.
