An old hotel that I remember seeing when I was a child. To me, it was a skyscraper. This building survived the 1964 tsunami that destroyed much of the town and killed 11 people, including several small children. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pitAGlz5x0
The 2011 earthquake in Japan caused another one. The harbor was destroyed.

For several years thereafter, many objects from Japan, some quite sad, have washed up on the coast of Alaska, Canada and mainland USA.

Steve Bucknell, Cheryl Beal, Andy Rodker, Gudrun and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

In a place where the other houses are low it is a skyscraper!

Yes indeed! I think it is still the tallest building within the next few cities! It survived a tsunami in 1964. I should add a link about that.

A HOTEL???????????
It looks more like a House of Correction or a place with the cheery encouragement that Arbeit Macht Frei is writ large. They would have to pay me very large sums of money indeed to set foot in the door, let alone stay a night in this godforsaken place.
imho!
Or do you think I am over-reacting?
You get a star for the fine shot though, Diane!

I think you're a drama queen, Andy. Keep in mind that hotels in towns like this (including mine) were mainly populated by seasonally employed men who worked in the woods, mills or fishing boats. I imagine there were a few women who followed them around, too. ;-o

Anyway thx for the star, even though you whined too much!

Ha! But I do a good whine doncha think?
You don't?
Hmmmmm. :o((((((((
I do an even better sulk.

You're an expert! I live alone, so I've forgotten how to whine and sulk. What's the use without the audience? ;-o

A long time ago, but pretty impressive. My family had moved to CA in 1962 and I remember Mom telling us about it, but I wasn't too interested...as 14-year-olds aren't.

A De Chirico kind of feeling, for me. “Metaphysical unease”.

I see that. It needs a lone man standing on the corner.
