  • Living like an "ordinary" Canadian family are we?

    - 361 visits
As a Canadian, I expect to contribute to Harper's pay check. I expect to buy his groceries and pay his cable bill. I even expect to help pay for him and his family to take trips and have outings that the average ordinary Canadian family would take. However, I do not believe that the average Canadian family hops on a plan to the U.S. just to watch hockey a game .

  • Jack and the Beanstalk is a horrible story.

    - 335 visits
I was reading Jack and the Beanstalk to my kids, not too long ago. Every time I read it I think about what a terrible story it really is. Some kid breaks into a guy's house and starts to steal all his stuff. After the 3rd time, the giant comes chasing after the little thief (totally understandable) and ends up getting killed. Meanwhile sticky-hands and his overly-critical mother (who never seems to care how her son is pulling in all this loot) lives happily ever after. What kind of message is th…

  • Movie Moment: Zombie Combo

Zombieland & Shaun of the Dead. Both were on the Movie Network this past weekend. Both very similar in many ways. They are zombie movies that are very entertaining and work to be fun instead of scary. They don't take themselves too seriously, and seem oddly more realistic on some levels than other zombie flicks I've seen (although I honestly haven't seen very many). There's a certain casualness to the situation in both movies, and both have scenes where they play on the "we can trick them by…

  • Some Photos

Well, I hadn't intended of posting any pictures on the site. I have my account at Flickr which I use for backing up my photos and keeping any photos that I use on my Blog , and some for work. I have our family website for picture of, well, our family. I did upload many tracks of my music for visitors to listen too, but I figure I might as well put some pictures up too and see if that draws some attention.

  • Movie Moment: Star Trek

    - 304 visits
I'm not really what you'd call a Star Trek fan. I've watched episodes of the original series, and I used to regularly watch the Next Generation. I never got into DS9 or Voyager, and I never delved into the extended universe. I thought it pertinent to mention this before getting into the movie, which even though came out a year ago I just got around to watching this past weekend. I enjoyed it a lot! I didn't mind that they screwed with the history; at least they did it in a way that comes righ…

  • Movie Moment: Double Bill

    - 302 visits
My wife and I watched Knowing the other night (staring Nicolas Cage). I did not like it. The beginning was cool, but I found it soon lost it's edge. The only thing that kept me watching until the end was to see how the world was going to end, and if the writers actually went through with it. I didn't really care a whole lot about the characters, and what was supposed to be tense moments felt drawn out and tiring. I also did not like who the guys in the black trench-coats turned out to be. Lame…

Hot Fuzz is an entertaining cop-comedy, with some spoof elements.

  • The Year Ahead in Gaming

I haven't been able to watch any of the E3 conferences this year, but that hasn't stopped me about thinking of the year ahead in gaming as I piece together what I see others talking about.

  • Movie Moment - No Country for Old Men

I gotta say, I wasn't a fan. It's been a long time since I watched a movie, and was really blown away. I think the last time a movie really impressed me was the Bourne Ultimatum last year. Maybe I'm picky. Anyway, the movie was not shy of good actors with great performances. Javier Bardem (the main bad guy) was an awesome character. If anything makes the movie worth watching, it's this guy. The flaw of the movie was it's long scenes of very little substance. There was a lot of watching bar…

  • My Apologies

Okay, so the site I used to post my music on which I had linked on to all the music I have posted on here went down recently. For a while it was down, and I thought it a maintenance issue (as they were a small independent site). Well now I guess it had not only gone down but also gone under. When i went there today I got advertisements for sex toys. So, I have not of course removed the links from my music docs which I have posted on here. My apologies to anyone who may have tried to visit the…

  • Movie Moment: Wall-E

The group at Pixar are great film makers. If I could sum up Wall E in one word, it would probably be "sweet". But it's sweet on many different levels. It's also not a sickly-make-you-puke kind of sweet. It's a funny and charming kind of sweet. It is however coupled with some more serious undertones. Pixar does such a great job of communicating the emotions, the humor, and what the characters are thinking through body language. A credit to their animation skills, and story telling in general. Pix…

  • Movie Moment - Doubt

Doubt stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, and Amy Adams. The story is about a nun (Streep) investigating a priest (Hoffman) whom she suspects is beginning an "inappropriate relationship" with one or more of the alter-boys.

  • Movie Moment: the Adjustment Bureau

    - 264 visits
In my experience, there's a good chance that if a movie is based on a Phillip K Dick short story it will be at least good, if not great. The Adjustment Bureau is no exception, and falls somewhere in between those ratings.

  • Movie Moment - American Gangster

    - 262 visits
I watched American Gangster this past week. I'm really not a huge Russel Crowe fan, but I do like Denzel Washington. They both did a really good job, and leagues better than the last time they appeared opposite each other years ago in Virtuosity. Anyway, yes it was a good movie. The beginning was a little slow, but once they finished setting up the background on the main characters things picked up. The ending wasn't what I was expecting, but real life endings rarely are. I won't be rushing…

You know what I find interesting? How some people will take 1 word they use everyday, and instead of saying that word in their native tongue, they'll say it in a different language.

  • Happy Canada Day!

    - 261 visits
Happy Canada Day! We won't be doing anything too crazy this Canada Day. We could head down to Parliment Hill, but with the kids it would be too crazy. We go every couple of years, but don't need to do it EVERY year. There's multiple city blocks that get closed to traffic, and the streets are PACKED with people. So today we'll just be staying around our neighbourhood. Go to some parks, maybe blow up the pool, and have a BBQ.

  • Fuzzy logic

The other day someone complained that they found a stray hair of an unknown donor in place where it shouldn't be (I think it was in the sink of the washroom at work or something). They were a little grossed out. That got me thinking that people over react to the sign of a hair on a counter, or desk, or yes - even in their food. I mean, think of it really: It's hair! You're covered in it. When you talk to someone they have thousands of these things in very close proximity to you. You may even…
