  • Movie Moment: Multiplex

I've seen eight movies in the past six weeks, which is quite a lot compared to how many movies I usually watch. Here's a quick run down!

  • Dear Ford.

    - 258 visits
I saw a commercial last night where a person was saying their Ford car makes them a better drive. Why? Because it tells them when someone is in their blindspot, and will automatically slow down a little if they get too close to another car. Does this help reduce the chance that a driver will get in an accident? Maybe, but it doesn't make the drivers any better. In fact, I think it does nothing to correct their bad habits. It allows them to drive lazy since the car will think for them. Ma…

Wonderful movie. It has everything! But I'll keep it short so I don't spoil it.

  • Let's not confuse friendly with trustworthy.

    - 256 visits
It's always nice when we see people put trust in someone they don't know. It's friendly, and suggests that everyone in the world is not an evil criminal, as it appears the news would like us to believe from time to time. That said, I do think there is such a thing as putting too much faith in the kindness of strangers.

Okay, the blog title is partially an inside joke known to no one on ipernity, so please allow me a moment to laugh because it's quite funny. Ha ha ha... I'm hilarious. Moving on. The title is also in part a reflection of how I feel towards the movie I Am Legend. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. It just came across to me as yet another zombie-type flick. No big deal. Even after this 3rd movie-adaptation where each movie takes part of the original story, the print version sti…

  • I'm sorry, what is the worse company in America?

    - 251 visits
You have got to be kidding me. EA? EA is the worst? Unless EA has some kind of influence over the government, military contracts, or distribution of wealth between the top 1% and everyone else in America, I doubt they're the worst. They may be sleazy and greedy (maybe) but really? The worst? http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2012/04/04/ea-is-the-worst-company-in-america-now-what/ Banks have got the consumers so blinded by the crap they want but don't need that they've lost sight of…

I heard Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" not too long ago. Every time I hear it I think of playing Burning Rubber (aka Bump'n'Jump) on the Commodore 64, as that was the song that played in that game. Sadly, this is true for more areas of historic art, culture, and music. Ride of the Valkyries and the Barber of Seville? Tell me you don't think of Bugs Bunny cartoons.

  • Movie Moment: I Am Number Four

I think my wife summed this movie up perfectly by saying "It's Twilight with super heroes and aliens instead of vampires and werewolves." There's not a whole lot to say outside of that. Overall, I didn't really enjoy this movie; I think the reason is that I am the wrong target audience. It's filled with the classic teen-movie moments sprinkled with super-powered-alien beings. But all of the coming-to-full-potential part of this guy exploring his powers gets buried under trite coming-of-a…

  • Movie Moment: Cloverfield

Cloverfield: Didn't like it. I think I could sum the reason why by saying the movie's style simply didn't appeal to me. Here's some more detail: So, if you didn't know, the whole gimmick of the movie is that it's being filmed from the point of view of one of the movie characters with a camcorder. NYC is being destroyed by a monster, while the guy keeps the camera rolling. It's Godzilla meets the Blair Witch film students. There's things that I can appreciate about the movie. The whole i…

I saw an list online entitled "101 Most Essential iPhone Apps of 2008". First of all the fact that there's 101 suggests to me that someone doesn't know the definition of essential. Upon seeing that one of the apps is a picture of a cowbell that makes a sound when you tap it appears to confirm my suspicions.

  • Movie Moment: Passchendaele

Passchendaele - If you haven't heard of this war movie that came out last year, I'm not surprised. I'm guessing Canadian WW1 films don't get a whole lot of notice. Now let me say before I get into this review that I am biased for 2 main reasons. 1. It's a war movie about Canadian soldiers. There's not many of these around, so I automatically had an interest. 2. It was directed by and starring Paul Gross. A great Canadian actor that has done his best to keep his talent and love of film local.…

  • Google and YouTube.... what are you guys doing?

I'm a little put off by the recent changes happening with YT copyright rules, in particular to what it means to posting videos that include game-play footage. I'm looking into getting a Vimeo account now, and even coming back to iPernity with a Club membership to boot. [EDIT] CRAP! Vimeo isn't a viable option either.

  • Movie Moment - Attack the Block

    - 233 visits
Attack the Block is a UK sci-fi alien invasion movie that I believe was done on a budget with many young actors that have (to my knowledge) no world-wide recognition. It was good. It's wasn't amazing or great, but it was good. And you know what? It was better than Skyline and it was better than Battle Los Angeles. It had it's over the top moments, but it had a lot of grounded and realistic moments as well. Nothing was particularly perfected in anything that was done, but nothing was poorly…

I think Jodie Foster is a good actress, and I thought this was a good movie. Not amazing, but good. It took a different direction that I at first anticipated, but it was a welcomed direction. I thought the whole situation played out quite realistically, but I was disappointed in the ending. To me it seemed like it was put in to be a crowd-pleaser, and took away from the feeling of "it could happen". At any rate, it's definitely a story movie; no big special effects, no over-the-top action, bu…

I could easily see some fans of the last-gen games ( and I'm one myself ) getting all in a huff about this movie, but as far as game-to-screen transitions go I thought it was good. I think it's all about the expectations you walk in with. I went in thinking it would be an okay adventure flick, and that's what it was. A not-great-but-not-bad, hit-all-the-tick-boxes, adventure movie of rental proportions. It looked well produced and there was an apparent amount of effort put into it. The story…

  • Go figure.

    - 225 visits
I realized recently that the number eight is the only number that people will preceed with the word "figure". People will say "how do you figure?" in reference to math, and they'll say "I need to see those figures" in references to numbers in general, but not a specific number. You never hear a teacher ask "Timmy, is that a figure 5 or a figure 6"? You never hear two guys saying "Hey Bob, let's do figure 3s in this car." "We can't Lou, the road is too narrow; we'll only be able to do figure 1…

  • Movie Moment - the Watchmen

    - 224 visits
It was good. I had never read the book to compare it to, but it definitely doesn't feel like a superhero movie. Going in, I wasn't expecting a typical superhero movie, but this didn't feel like one at all. Yes, they are in there, but it was more of a crime drama to me then anything. That's not a bad thing, but at the same time I wasn't feeling pumped up by the whole event. By the end, I was happy to have seen it, but not excited that I had seen it. Rorschach was a great character though. He was…
