  • WIPocalypse - May 14, 2014

    - 14 May 2014
The question for this full moon was: "What designs or themes do you really wish you could find? What do you think is missing among stitching designs?" Well, I have to say I'm a rather eclectic stitcher and can usually find something to stitch without looking too long or hard (heck, my stash of charts, magazines and books is large enough to net a fair number of $$$ in a garage sale should I ever get around to setting one up). I can't offhand think of anything I can't find... I'm more of the…

  • WIPOCALYPSE April 2014 - The Blood Moon (and an eclipse to boot!

    - 15 Apr 2014
    Bands 1-9
Yep, an eclipse which we could not see here in NW Ohio since it was SNOWING! AAACK! This Month's assignment it to describe how we keep our stash organized! I have to laugh at that as organized is a far cry from what my stash is. My craft space has six cabinets (two of which are for embroidery supplies, two of which are for quilting supplies and two of which are for papercrafting supplies) in (and on and around) which my stash is stored. Within the cabinets are shelves and the occasional…

  • WIPocalypse 2014 ... the first full moon!

    - 18 Jan 2014
This month's "assignment" --- "Introduce yourself, your projects, and any goals you have for the year!" Seems easy enough until I try to write them down! Who am I? I am a retired environmental scientist who has been stitching since the 1960s. I started out with knitting, moved on to crewel embroidery, graduated to needlepoint and then cross stitch and have since branched out to blackwork, freehand embroidery, bead embroidery and crazy quilting. Constantly trying to break out of my box but…

  • WIPocalypse - December 2013

    - 18 Dec 2013
This month, we are supposed to "Recap your accomplishments for the year! (Your finishes, your final before/after photos, etc)". HMMM... That means I need to check back through the year and see what happened as far as stitchery is concerned and that isn't an easy task. I try to do this as a final post of the year wrap-up as well, but let's see what I can come up with WIPocalypse-style... Finishes were (not necessarily in order of finish): An Elizabeth Arnold blackwork design "Red Thai Manda…

  • WIPocalypse 2013 - November 17 (a full Beaver Moon)

    - 18 Nov 2013
The topics in WIPocalypse for this month include : Themes: Designer – Allessandra Adelaide, Style – Ornaments, Colors – White and Purple. I have never done a Allessandra Adelaide chart, nor do I have any in my stash. There are no ornaments in progress (although I have some possibilities in a stack of printouts on my work table that I MIGHT get around to someday soon). And I have no white and/or purple stitchery in progress or even planned. Last month, the unfinished projects in my project ba…

  • WIPocalypse 2013 - October

    - 18 Oct 2013
    PA180001
For October 2013, the WIPocaplypse themes are: Designer – Ink Circles, Style – Autumn, and Colors – Black and Orange. I do have some Ink Circles in my to do bag --- 8 different mandalas along the same theme, with pone more to come --- an online class called "Roll Your Own". But while I've chosen my color scheme and kitted it out, I haven't started stitching yet. Autumn is my favorite season and I have stitched autumn-style things before but nothing this month (or this year, for that mat…

  • WIPocalypse - September 19th's Harvest Moon

    - 19 Sep 2013
    Sepetember 17, 2013
The themes for this lunar cycle are Designer – Heaven and Earth Designs, Style – Specialty Stitches, Colors – Brown and Green. I have to say I have never stitched a HAED piece (nor do I own any, although I've been tempted). They are just to BIG a project for me, I think... As for Speciality stitches, I suppose blackwork could be considered speciality and I finished Elizabeth Almond's "Midnight Garden" and am currently stitching an Ajisai Designs piece called "Puppy Dog" which is blackwork. As fo…

  • Wipocalypse, August 20, 2013.

    - 20 Aug 2013
    one of four borders
WIPocalypse (August 20) This month's themes were: Designer – Long Dog, Style – Smalls, Colors – Blue and Red. I have never done a Long Dog design. Don't think I even own one. I suppose my TAST, BJP and Purple Daisy could be considered "smalls" --- for me, they are, anyway. As for blue and red --- not a stitch in either color! So much for themes to keep me stitching! My only completions during the past lunar cycles were TAST - Zig Zag Chain, Woven Zig Zag Chain, Vandyke Stitch, a…

  • Wipocalypse, July 22, 2013.

    - 22 Jul 2013
This month's themes are : Designer – Glendon Place, Style – Animals, Colors – Red and Yellow. Well, I have stitched two Glendon Place designs, but none of their designs are in my WIP bad. Similarly, no animals, unless you count the itty bitty blackwork insects on "Midnight Garden". As for red, well there was the July Crazy Quilt Journal Project block --- it was ALL red, with a touch of white. But nothing yellow... What I have stitched on since last WIPocalypse check in is as follows:…

  • WIPocalypse - June 23, 2013 (the Super Moon)

    - 23 Jun 2013
    Monochromatic red - June 2013
This month's themes were: Designer – Teresa Wentzler, Style – Summer, Colors – Black and Green ... and again, I don't have a single piece in progress that fits in with those themes. Also, I still seem to be in recovery from that eye surgery as my eyes don't seem to have any stitching stamina *and* I seem to have lost my stitching mojo as a result of the four weeks I had to lay off for recovery. Still, I did get SOME stitching in this month. Completions included: The Crazy Quilt Journal…

  • WIPocalypse 2013 - April 25...

    - 26 Apr 2013
For April the themes were: Designer – Mirabilia, Style – Samplers, Colors – Blue and Orange. Well, I do have some Mirablia charts but I haven't stitched one, ever. I do have some sampler charts, but I haven't been into samplers for a while so there are no WIPS there either. As for blue-and orange color themes... well, I've been avoiding blue because there was so much last year but... Midnight Garden's DOES have some blue in it, and part two of the Sumptuous Surface Embroidery Class was also…

  • WIPocalypse - March 2013

    - 27 Mar 2013
WIPocalypse - March 27, 2013 This month's WIPocalyspe themes are : Designer – Chatelaine, Style – Springtime, Colors – Green and Yellow. Well, I don't have any Chatelaine pieces in progress although I do believe I have one chart in my stash... Springtime (which has yet to arrive here) is almost the theme for my BJP March butterfly ... and I have dabbled in yellow (that butterfly again) and green (my Encrusted Crazy Quilt block)! In addition to the above pieces completed or in progress,…
