Interesting bit of gear George. I wonder the same thing about the radars I've seen on ocean-going boats tied up in close company in marinas.

In the 60s & 70s my Dad worked in CSIRO National Standards, Radio Frequency Group. He told me of a 'heating system' they had to evaluate. This was before microwave ovens became a thing.

It proposed radiating a continuous low level signal at 60GHz. This was intended to warm the skin of people in a room and cost much less to operate than regular electric heating for the same comfort level.

It failed! (I wondered if the proponents had shares in cataract and cancer treatment businesses).

Yes, our awareness of some safety related issues has certainly changed over the years, Graham. Thanks for sharing this interesting recollection.
