Nelligen Bridge

Nelligen Bridge
The bridge at Nelligen, suffering from concrete rot and being replaced by a new bridge - seen under construction in the background (view large to see better). The new bridge has now come into operation and the old bridge is under demolition.
LATE ADDITIONAL NOTE: Unfortunately the road layout meant that there was no better access to show the development of the new bridge, structurally near complete.

Another week gone and it's time to wish everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend.

Very well composed, George!
When the dilapidated bridge is completely demolished, I'm sure there will be an opportunity to photograph the new bridge. Until then and beyond, I wish you a great weekend as well, and all the best.

Excellent capture George, the Clyde looks to be quite a wide river to cross,
Belated HFF and a great week ahead

I wonder how long this concrete bridge has been there? We are now beginning to realize that concrete has a limited shelf life. I look forward to your posting of the new bridge.

There is an information sheet on this, Amelia. The bridge was built in 1964 and routine inspections showed deterioration of the concrete below water level. The bridge was still safe, but would need major repairs or replacement within 10 years.

Thanks, Roger. The river is still tidal at this point, but only a relatively few Km upstream it becomes much smaller and free flowing.
