Another grid

Another grid
For those unfamiliar with cattle grids, they consist of a concrete boxed trench across the road, typically about 1 metre wide. Parallel steel bars about 100mm apart are across the trench. The structure works as a gate for livestock while allowing wheeled vehicles to cross. The concrete sometimes has a sharp lip which could damage tyes if not approached carefully (as here in the centre). Maybe view large to see detail.

Happy Fence Friday, everyone, and have a great weekend.

No, it's not for them, Pete (nor are fences if they're in a hurry).

Aquí, en el País Vasco, las llamamos puertas canadienses, no se si el origen está en ese país. Yo, que soy senderista, las temo porque a veces el pie se te puede ir entre las barras si no hay nada a los lados a lo que agarrarte. HFF.

An ominous looking dust cloud ahead! I don't see many cattle grids here that are so narrow. I think ours are much wider perhaps nearly two meters. Well done.

HFF, enjoy the weekend. Herb

The dust isn't a concern, Herb, it's another vehicle travelling the same direction.

Wonderful and interesting images George, we have these grids on many minor roads especially on the high moors, The dust cloud is I assume from a previous vehicle, but it does show how dry the ground is., HFF and a nice weekend.

Thanks, Roger. Yes, the dust is from another vehicle travelling in the same direction - itt's best if possible to just maintain a good distance behind to avoid the dust and any rocks bouncing up.

Yep! I remember them from rural USA. And the dust was caused by a herd of cattle that successfully escaped? ;-)

Those grids require a careful approach by drivers, mostly when vehicles have axles with different lengths! Belated HFF, George!
