The Strangler Fig

The Strangler Fig
In the rainforest at the Mt Tamborine National Park. Strangler Figs grow from seeds dropped high in the branches of existing trees, then proceed to take over their hosts - far more detail given in the sign copied in the note.

Impressive tree and good info. Since they're called "figs", do they have edible fruit?

Thanks Steve. Your comment steered me off into 'homework'. :-) These are indeed part of the ficus family (about 750 species worldwide, of which 45 are native here). And, getting to the point, the fruits of all are edible, though not necessarily palatable.
