Are people complying? So many people yell that it their right not to comply with such an order - this is a free country. Sure - try not paying your taxes. Or driving without a license, or 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. Or walk right into a restricted government building. End of rant.

Actually, I enjoyed your "rant", rdhinmn! Where do they get the notion that they are free to be menace to everyone else, beats me ...

Sorry, Sarah, for occupying your space, but your photo is quite provocative!

Mostly they are, as far as inside situations like shopping, because pretty much everywhere you have to wear a mask, so it's the "new normal" (and will be for some time.)

Well, as it happens it is true that ventilated masks let out your breath/virus.
I'm lucky because I work for a top medical/research institution, so I hear about the science as it happens. It's true that there were a lot of things we didn't know about this virus originally, but much has been learned.

Yes, that's my impression too. But it is important where to get information, whether from a qualified source (newspaper, scientific journal) or from a inflammatory cheap paper or tabloid. :]

Indeed! Don't believe that social media post from a well-meaning friend, just because they heard it from "an insider who really knows what's going on." :-)

A bit of an eye-opener Sarah - I had looked at these when we needed to buy some masks - it is a bit of a minefield isn't it? Thank you for posting. HFF and have a good weekend

I didn't know this either. Most people I know use the daily disposable masks, like medical staff.
Have a good weekend.

Those are fine, though from an environmental perspective, I prefer reusable masks myself.

The point of masks is essentially to protect others around you. If they let your breath out, they defeat the purpose, of course. Good, thought provoking image, Sarah!

HFF!

Thank you! There is a lot of evidence that masks in fact protect both, though more the other than yourself (depending a bit on the mask.) Either way, we better get used to it, because there's no other way we can stem this pandemic.

A sign of the times, but once you start arguing about the standard of masks you’d be letting very few people near you.
Honestly, I wouldn’t go in there; what would happen if you trespassed the two meter rule or touched something you shouldn’t?

I never argue. I like scientific evidence, myself and would only counsel others to do the same and trust reliable sources. As it happens, these particular masks do let out your breath (that's what they are designed to do), so yeah, they are not really safe for others.
The two meter/six feet rule is not such a big deal when everyone wears masks and you avoid prolonged close proximity. That rule was started before we realized we really, really need to wear masks and that the best protection all around.
As for not going in there, it happens to be our favorite grocery store, so if they told us we had to wear pink bandanas, we'd happily oblige :-)
