Here is a link to the Sutton Veny Village web site, which is very moving and has a list of the names of all the Australians buried here (WWI). The school is next to the church and In addition to the yearly Anzac Service in St Johns Church on the Sunday closest to the 25th of April, the children from Sutton Veny Primary School conduct a yearly Commemorative Service in the Cemetery on Anzac Day.

Two great examples of excellent architecture in juxtaposition, Rosa. The upward-looking perspective is very effective in highlighting these two magnificent structures. The commonwealth War Graves are very moving. The Sutton Veny Village website is very interesting. Cheers, Joe

Thank you very much Joe. The church grounds are very much higher than the pavement, which is a big help in getting this perspective. Yes so moving. It would be difficult leave without feeling the sadness and waste of war. Cheers, Rosa.

It's a lovely church and memorial. I can hardly bear to look at the gravestones. They are beautifully looked after and in a lovely place but so many young people had short lives and died far from home. Take care and have a good week

It is very moving Jean. I have never come away without a tear in my eye. What seems even worse is that many survived the war, only to be struck down with Spanish flu.
Stay safe and have a good new week.

A very moving experience to read the gravestones. There were a few Australian flags there, so relatives still come to pay their respects.

There are some interesting stories on the village web site, if you click on the highlighted names. It's lovely that the local school remembers them every year.

NEIGHBOUR YEARS AGO WORKED FOR TH WAR GRAVES COMMISSION, THEY DO AN AMAZING JOB
3 years ago.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Pam J club
They really do Pam. The saddest thing in this graveyard was seeing how many, often under the age of 20, died in 1919 from the Spanish flu, including many young women who served in the medical corp.

A lovely image of the church and moving images of the war graves, Rosa. One of my Great Uncles was in the 26th Division, but I don't believe he ever visited here. He was in Gallipoli until December 1915 and then, with his unit, was sent to the Somme - where he remains.

Thank you George. So sad to think of these young people dying so far from home. The of course before many returned to Australia, there was the Spanish flue, and quite a few of the graves tell of that pandemic! I have never left the graveyard with dry eyes...it's so moving.
Take care and have a good evening.

A very poignant series Rosa...............beautifully composed and taken. Commonwealth War Graves are nearly always very well looked after and I find them a very moving place to be.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you Keith. Yes thankfully they are well cared for and it teaches the local school children important history. As I mentioned to George in my reply, I have never left this particular graveyard with dry eyes. Such a moving sight.

Thank you for your kind comment dear Gunter. It is a very moving place to visit. It always brings a tear to my eye when I read how young they are and on the other side of the world. I have seen flowers and messages from Australian relatives who come especially to see the cemetery.

All the best and good evening, Rosa
