Ashmore Filly Loo.
Summer Solstice ~ The Filly Loo at Ashmore, Dorset is an ancient and magical celebration held around the Summer Solstice every year. No one is quite sure of the origins of the name. The Filly Loo begins when a Green Man arrives in a procession and takes part in a first dance to start the evening. The White Horse Morris Men arrive along with the Steps in Time dancers, and these displays are followed by public dancing led by the Hambledon Hopstep Band. At dusk torches are lit and the Abbotts Bromley Horn Dance begins. Six antlered deer-men arrive with four other traditional characters. It ends with everyone holding hands around the pond with a traditional song and dance.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to John GoodwinA really nice set of pictures, and excellent information too.
Midsummer seems a better time to do this kind of thing than May.
Sounds like a lot of fun though... A 'Horn Dance'.. MMMMM!
Better than dancing round a maypole I suppose!
Best Wishes
Peter
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter_Private_Box clubThank you for your kind comments. They were lucky with the weather again this year.
The Horn Dance was amazing. It was performed along the street in complete silence. I would love to have got a picture, but I didn't want to use flash and spoil the enjoyment of people around me. Ha ha, yest better than a maypole!
Best wishes, Rosa.
All the best, Doug
