A terrible story Maggie

One that is not uncommon around a lot of our coastal regions. Luckily it usually happens slowly and people abandon their properties well before this happens as was the case here.

They moved out about three years previously after another slip which made it obvious the whole cliff was going to go :-((

Oh wow! That's not good at all..!!

Like you say.............over the past few years there have been lots of similar stories about people losing their homes to coastal erosion...........and there seems very little that can be done.

I'm glad to hear that no one was killed or injured in this instance!

Two fantastic shots Maggie.............great reportage!

On a lighter note........at least the shed is OK ;-D

I did wonder if it was a bit too shocking but not all images have to be comfortable, glad you agree!

I looked on google maps and the shed is still there!!

Very topical given that currently Norfolk amongst other areas are suffering from this unstoppable erosion.
Well captured Maggie

Thanks Greg!

Norfolk does see to be taking the brunt of it at the moment. I'm torn between being upset for the people affected and knowing that the amount of money needed to combat this never-ending erosion is just not available.

Scenes like this are all to common and very disturbing around certain coasts in the UK. I cannot imagine how the owners cope.

It must be an awful situation and I doubt that they can get insurance.

Vraiment impressionnant. Et dire que certains augures nous prédisent ce genre de catastrophes de plus en plus fréquentes.

WOW Maggs! SO sorry for these people. Im assuming that rain, flooding, was the cause of this. .Hope they were able to salvage most of their belongings..!!! thanks for sharing this...

Sarah it was coastal erosion, wind and weather over the years taking its toll. The family had already moved away after a landslip three years previously made it pretty obvious that they would lose the house.

A superb capture Maggs, The red sands of South Devon and Torbay are very susceptible to erosion, as many of my family come from Babbacombe I can remember this type of slippage has been happening most of my lifetime thankfully not with dramatic results like this.

Those last two in 2010 and 2013 certainly were dramatic - I'm not sure where the coastal path goes these days.

We lived in Rowley Rd. for a good few years, I used to take my two retrievers along there, just cross the main road and it was great for them off lead!

Used to holiday near Dunwich as a child and as I had an early interest in all things historical, this sort of thing grabbed me very early. Later followings of coastal erosion in Cornwall have kept me reasonably well honed with such goings on!

Shocking and amazing coastal erosion. Excellent documentary photography. I was born in England and had holidays down this coast. This type of erosion seems to have accelerated. Terrible for the people who lose their homes like this.

Here in the North Island in the months past, many have lost homes suddenly in tornados. It is something that has never happened before in Auckland and down the east coast. Some have lost everything they owned. It is a sad situation. It was so sudden and many had to run for it with just what they were wearing.
