This looks downright dangerous, or from Modern Times, maybe? It does make a good semi-symmetric picture, and the colors are perfect.

Thanks, Bob. These are escalator treads stacked on the platform at the subway station near me. No one's doing anything with them so they're serving as an art installation instead.

If they serve...for something...it is already something better than mere... urplus.
I'm afraid one day one needle will be too much urban spending.
Hope to be wrong on this one.

You probably know better than I do, Jose, but I gather that getting people through subway stations quickly is a big problem today (these are escalator treads at a subway station). Toronto doesn't have the problems of bigger cities, but is having trouble dealing with the ones it dies have.

I am sorry to have started on that note, John!
If, I had known, always the same excuse....
With 2.7 million inhabitants my remark was senseless; first you deal with the safety of all those souls and then you think of the rest. And still find the time to answer, in a very civil way, to someone who totally ignored the purpose of that switch in equipment.
Congratulations.

Well, I thought your comment was good, Jose. Keep 'em coming. And maybe the north is creating a society so complex it can't survive. E. M. Forster wrote, in the 1920s, about the collapse of a technological civilization much like the nort'ès, "The Machine Stops" My Canadian intellectual heritage tells me that technology drives history. If we can't keep the technology running our history, anyway, will take a sudden sharp turn..

And you have to take a photograph to see it, too, Jean. This was just dark to my eyes.

They're way more complex than you imagine from just looking at them in use. A fascinating shot John.
