Portland port (#0480)

Portland port (#0480)
I was raised in a port city, had family members involved in shipyard work, and Sunday excursions often involved wandering around in the shipyards, so ports have frequently been a source of fascination about handling cargo from/to foreign destinations. Unfortunately, Portland ended up being a source of frustration regarding being able to actually photograph the port facilities. Much of the port activity is no longer close to downtown, and very much of it is also in giant facilities that are inaccessible. Even when the port facilities could be viewed from a road, often there was no place to stop and take pictures.

There is a large park, Kelley Point, on the north side of Portland that abuts various port facilities, but there was very little way to get to a point where you could see parts of the port. What’s visible here is slightly confusing. Closest to me is a large facility for importing automobiles, the giant container cranes are much further away.
