Astoria OR Hotel Astoria (#1256)
The Hotel Astoria, later known as the John Jacob Astor Hotel. It’s the tallest building in Astoria and was once the tallest building on the Oregon coast. Completed in 1923, it was the social center of the town in its early years but lost popularity fairly quickly. Per the Wikipedia page, it encountered a variety of legal problems, some related to Prohibition, but it appears its fortunes were largely damaged by changes in access to the Oregon coast in the late 1940’s which reduced the need to go through Astoria to get to the coast. The building was abandoned for a number of years, but reopened as an apartment building in 1986
