I've probably been in over 100 protest marches in my life, and this was a first for me. It was very encouraging, the sound of the chants echoing through the halls and people joining in at they came out of the stores.

The thing about the lack of police protection forcing you on the sidewalks makes me wonder if that wasn't a benefit in disguise, in that by keeping the streets open, you gave more opportunity for more Palm Springs people to actually see it. I would imagine that's more a driving community ... though I only passed through there once very quickly. But I'd think most of what people see, they see from their cars.

Similarly, going to the mall seems like a really smart plan. Go to where the people are. Also, the acoustics would make you louder, I'd think.

It (staying to the sidewalks) was beneficial since more people in more cars saw us.
