Yuma Colorado river bridges ... and jumping (#0886)

Yuma Colorado river bridges ... and jumping (#0886)
Ocean-to-Ocean Highway bridge and railroad bridge.

Not long after I took this picture, a teenager appeared who was climbing up the cliff onto the railroad bridge. He then walked just a little ways across the railroad bridge and jumped. Considering the shallowness of the river, I assumed that meant there would be an accident. Watching for a few minutes, no one ran to the river, so I assumed either that nothing happened or he had died without being noticed. The next day I asked someone about people jumping from the bridge and she told me that the just below the Ocean-to-Ocean bridge, the rock formations result in currents that dig very deep but relatively narrow holes in the river under the bridge. Efforts to discourage jumping are regularly made since a slight miss in the jump could be deadly, but people still jump.

1banaan, , have particularly liked this photo

But it's my female cat that's the most active/adventurous. The genetic heritage of feeding the litter takes lots of challenges :)

Well, I sure wouldn't get between a cow and her calf. Even so, I'd _still_ rather be in a field full of heifers than one full of bulls! ;)

So, why is it that males are so territorial while it's the females that have to get the food for the 'family'? I suspect the answer, but this is not the medium for that discussion :)
