Yuma San Carlos (#0786)
One of the key reasons for going to Yuma was to get a better picture than I had in the past of the San Carlos hotel. The dominant economy of the greater Yuma area is agriculture, military, and retirees, so there is relatively little that stands out in terms of architecture other than the San Carlos. It dominates the older downtown area in size and in architectural uniqueness. Unfortunately, I’ve not found a way to capture the detail in the design on the front.
There is surprisingly little information available about the building, other than that it was built in 1930, used by Hollywood stars filming westerns in the area, went into decline as downtown declined, and is now used as senior housing. The video linked below is the best history I could find: www.youtube.com/watch?v=irJ7IXbM46U&feature=youtu.be
