San Lucas cemetery (0965)

San Lucas cemetery (0965)
Bears, an owl, a model Chevy, football jerseys, and more, for a young man (20 at death). At the San Lucas cemetery, an interesting mix of burial sites.

Looks a lot like some of the Indian cemeteries I've been to.

Definitely more creative than the blandness of the typical plot.

Most places wouldn't allow it, and some even have time limits on flowers...they go out and throw them away!

If you look at some of the larger pictures you'll see that the cemetery looks fairly ad hoc. The town is small and the cemetery covers more than 100 years, so it seems that all that happens is that it gets mowed.

Yep, I did look and noticed that. I still have a few around here like this I want to go photo. One is St. Mary Magdeline on the rez by the South Unit of the Park. It's off in a field and has a road made of two wheel ruts leading to it so I need to go while the ground is still frozen. Maybe next week or so.

This could not be more fabulous! This family wants everyone to know this person. That makes it charming. Re: the comments above, it certainly is like a lot of Native graves here, too. (I just now saw your link to this in a cemetery photo of mine that you commented on 20 months ago!)
