Where once mighty glaciers determined the landscape, today you can find a unique, vast cultural landscape of forests, fields, moors and heathland that is unique in Europe - the Lüneburg Heath (from: www.lueneburger-heide.de/region).
The heath areas consist mainly of common heather (Calluna vulgaris) and must be regularly grazed to prevent trees from establishing, which would mean the end of the heath landscape. The natural mowers are the Heidschnucken (a breed of Nordic short-tailed sheep).
The main photo shows a flock of these black-white coloured animals together with brown-white coloured goats with their shepherd in the background on the right. In PiP1 a shepherd with his dogs, in PiP2 a close-up of a Heidschnucke.

Sunny Sunday.
Bon dimanche.
