... fand ich kürzlich in einem Laubmischwald. Es war der Lederlaufkäfer (Carabus coriaceus), der 3-4 cm lang werden kann. Dieses Insekt ist flugunfähig und ein nachtaktiver Jäger, der sich von Schnecken, Würmern und anderen Insekten ernährt (siehe Video youtu.be/htomtWcOuSQ). Die mächtigen Oberkieferzangen sind dafür sehr hilfreich. Bei Gefahr sondert er ein stinkendes Sekret ab. Die Lebenszeit als Käfer kann bis zu drei Jahren betragen.
Leider war das von mir gefundene Exemplar tot und zum Fotografieren setzte ich das Insekt auf einen mit Flechten bewachsenen Ast.

When threatened, it secretes a stinky secretion. The lifetime as a beetle can be up to three years.
Unfortunately, the specimen I found was dead and I placed the insect on a branch overgrown with lichen to photograph it.
