Hopes And Dreams ...

Hopes And Dreams ...
For this week's Sunday Challenge for which the theme was the future.

Every week millions of Brits play the national lottery hoping, dreaming even, that it might indeed be them that hits the jackpot.

I must admit to occasionally succumbing myself and buying a ticket be it for the Lotto or the Euro Millions. However, I have so little faith in the likelihood of me winning that I usually end up with umpteen tickets going back several weeks, if not months, lying around waiting to be checked.

I know money can't buy you happiness, but it sure can bring security and peace of mind, which is something anyone who has to rent their property never really has in their life.

That's why if my numbers ever do come up then I'd be happy just winning enough to be able to stop renting. That and maybe having enough left over to be financially secure into old age is all I'd want ... the rest I'd happily give away. I mean, how many millions does one person really need?

My resolve though is unlikely to be tested any time soon as, you've guessed it, there wasn't a single winning line in any of these!

Valfal, Malik Raoulda, Wierd Folkersma, and 13 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great idea for this topic. Hope you win enough one day. I never win more than a few pounds on anything.

I know just what you mean Harriet and yet we have retired friends who go to clubs and do bingo etc. who seem to be winning every week ... perhaps I should ask them to buy me a lottery ticket! ;)

Understand totally Paul

To have "enough" . The rest.. plenty of Charities to give to.

I do one Easy Pick(they pick the numbers) line a weel.. that is $2.. my Two Dollar Dream. In the UK I spent £1 a weelk on an easy pick line.

I long to come Home... its probably the only way I will now if I win the Lottery.

As you say Pam there are plenty of charities and good people around. To be honest I think to much emphasis is made in these competitions on winning big. I think they'd be far better capping the jackpot and spreading the rest further down the line. After all it's so hard to get even just a couple of numbers! :(

Interesting you mention coming home as I didn't know you were from over here or if I did I'd forgotten. By the way, if you do make it back it'll cost you £2 now for a single line ticket. OH, and they've increased the range of numbers you can select from up to 59. They say that increases your chances ... go figure that one out! ;)

Paul.... they did exactly the same here.... it used to be a dollar a line.. they doubled the price.. and that bought one line.. and added alot more numbers !

I have been here 10 years this month.. and only been able to come Home once 5 years ago. It rips my heart out. Jay is worth it.. but there isnt a day it isnt hard.

Haha, winning would be too much of a good thing- being hit by lightning is much more probable;-)
Cool idea, Paul!

At the risk of starting a political debate Paul I could question the morals of around 1% of the population owning 99% of the world's wealth, but I won't! ;)

Great, sharp photo, Paul. Yes, I sure know what you mean. Just enough to make all the stress disappear.... I've never had any luck with our lotto tickets either, but you just never know. ;)

I guess it's that dream of "if only" that keeps us going back for another ticket. What really saddens me though is when you see obviously poor people buying several tickets or scratch cards at a time! :(

Me and my wife, we always pick the right numbers! It just seems the damn lottery machine is always picking the wrong ones! =D

Ha, love your comment Sami ... I'd never thought that it was the machine that was getting it wrong - lol! :)

Meant to say 'always', not 'also'... Corrected my comment on that ;-)

I suppose I have some sort of an dysfunctional text suggestion machine in my head =D

And yes, you know the old joke? "What do you mean you called to the wrong number? This is a real number!"

Like your interpretation of the challenge and with a great shot as well. :)

We play the Lotto from time to time as well Paul but not much luck I'm afraid. I agree that, "they'd be far better capping the jackpot and spreading the rest further down the line". If one can't get along on $1 million dollars/pounds one needs to step back and prioritize their needs as opposed to their wants.

Thanks for the kind comments on the shot Chris and glad we agree on the capping issue too. As you say, needs and wants are quite different things! :)

If any of you do win the lottery and want to help charities, I suggest that you not follow the example of many donors and insist that your donations go to direct service. I do a lot of work with non-profits, and they are increasingly hamstrung by their inability to use donations (and even government grants) for overhead. If they can't pay the overhead, they can't provide the direct service. You can't deliver a meal to someone at home if no one will pay your gas. And (and this is what I've been really building up to) it would help if you didn't restrict any current donations that way.

And remember -- I work with non-profits and you want them to be able to pay me, eh? Of course you do.

They say money doesn't bring you happiness, but I'd settle for feeling miserable driving a Ferrari, and not wondering how the fk I'm gonna pay a £1096 gas and electric bill that just landed on my mat.
If you ain't in, you won't win.
Keep living the dream.

Money can't buy happiness, but it's more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes than on a bicycle.

I am the same with tickets.. this is a nice peak into the future Doc.
