Lest We Forget ...

What do we forget when we remember
What are the stories left untold
What do we think each November
As we march down that glory road
As we march down that gory road
One hundred million
Don’t come home from war
Another eight hundred million
Who lived to bear its scar
Who lived to bear its scar
Lest we forget
What they were dying for
Lest we forget
What they were killing for
Lest we forget
What the hell it was for
What do we forget when we remember…

And yes, there's not a single car in sight! This if you like is the other side of me and the view is one of looking towards Roseberry Topping in North Yorkshire.
I used to see this landmark most evenings on the way home to Guisborough where we lived many years ago. Thankfully, we've recently moved nearer to it once again and it remains one of my favourite sights.
Hope you like it too ... have a good weekend folks!

Well, it's Friday again and the weekend is looming so I thought I'd upload something a little different. This time around a colourful macro with warmer and hopefully sunnier days in mind.

Situated on the outskirts of York, Breezy Knees Gardens covers fifteen acres of land comprising a series of beautiful individual gardens which meander into each other ... plus some rather interesting pieces of sculpture!
This pair of giant Wellington boots must be in the region of 12-15 feet in height and are quite a sight when you first see them.
Come to think of it, given the forecast for more heavy rain to fall this weekend in parts of the UK that are already badly flooded they might come in very handy!

Yet another in my ongoing series to show that I do occassionally take photos of things other than cars.
Have a great weekend folks.

Just a little reminder that occasionally the weather in Britain is actually very good, lest we forget amidst all the terrible winter storms we're enduring at the moment.
This is a corner of Harrogate's Valley Gardens with the Sun Pavilion in the background.

Apologies for not keeping this series going over the last couple of weeks, but other things have taken priority so to speak.
Anyway, back on track now so here's a shot I took of a poppy in our back garden when we were still living in Harrogate. Won't be long until these are coming back out again.

Another from the archives, but at least I've remembered this week to post something in this slot.
By all accounts the weather here might be good this weekend - hope that's the same wherever you are.
Either way, have a good one!

Another shot of the Valley Gardens in Harrogate, which is an English Heritage Grade II Listed Garden situated in regal Low Harrogate, adjacent to a popular woodland known as The Pinewoods, and covers 17 acres.
It includes beautiful historical buildings such as the Sun Pavilion and Colonnades, which sit alongside a wide variety of shrub, flower and herbaceous beds. The gardens also include - outdoor games facilities a children's play area for all ages, a skate park and the Magnesia Well Cafe, the roof of which can be seen through the trees in this particular shot.
For music lovers, occasional band concerts take place on Sunday afternoons throughout the summer.

Snapped this lovely Mallard in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire.
There's a little place there called Suggitts that makes the best ice cream for miles around ... be sure to check them out if you're ever in the area!

Yes, another flower, but at least it isn't another car!
Please feel free to comment, but I'd appreciate it if people wouldn't leave any "seen in statements or links as I've posted this in a number of groups - some of which don't accept submissions that carry those kind of statements.
Anyway, what ever you have planned this weekend, I hope you enjoy it. I have my old Scirocco taxed now for the summer and the battery is on charge so weather permitting I'll have her out for a drive.

Okay folks, having been encouraged to take up the Sunday Challenge by Indycaver (Norm) I thought i'd have a go.
The challenge this week was shallow depth of field and he had suggested a photo I've already uploaded might have been appropriate. However, I thought I'd post a couple of new images.
This is Sandy, one of our rescue dogs, on guard duty.
If you look in the notes, you'll see the photo Norm saw when he suggested I consider joining the group.

The Sunday Challenge - Open Garage

I'm afraid I've struggled a bit this week as we've had family staying meaning I've not had so much camera/computer time.
So not only am I late with this week's upload, but I've had to raid my archives to find something that I feel fits the theme of open .
This is a shot I took of my old Scirocco whilst on holiday a few years ago. I must admit I did think long and hard about using the garage that came with the holiday cottage we were renting.

This is the inside of an old book, which was given to me as a child. It was tied into the TV series of the same name, but you'll need to be of a certain age to remember it!
