A Kiss To Build A Dream On
"Moonlight On The Meadow" (Kalmar - Ruby) was written for the Marx Brothers movie "A Night At The Opera" in 1935, but it wasn't used and nothing happened to the tune for years. The title was changed and new lyrics written for "The Strip", a 1951 movie in which 19 year old actress, singer Kay Brown sang "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" (Kalmar - Ruby - Hammerstein ll). Kay was married to Maynard Ferguson.
Louis Armstrong also sang "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" in the movie as did Mickey Rooney and William Demarest. Louis released a single that peaked at number sixteen on Billboard.
Hugo Winterhalter's Orchestra and Chorus with vocalist Johnny Parker covered "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" in 1952 and peaked in the top twenty. Hugo played with Tommy Dorsey, Claude Thornhill and Count Basie before signing with RCA Victor in 1950.
