Puerta lateral de la torre de los Lujanes. Mediados del siglo XV.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HDdiz8MU8o Sight and sound, knocking on a door - seems reasonable!

Fred Fouarge, John FitzGerald, Eric Desjours, Keith Burton and 33 other people have particularly liked this photo

A nicely composed capture of a door that has seen a lot of events in it's life not all peaceful by the look of those spiked studs

In it's early years, this house (the oldest in Madrid) was the home of the Luján family. They had many enemies!
Thank you, Peter!

A great image. You have captured all the textures so well. If only it could talk.

Thank you, Jean. This is in a very narrow alley, so a decent photo of it it is tricky!

I THINK IT WHISPERED SOMETHING LIKE "THE DOORS OF PERCEPTION ARE ALL AROUND", AS I SQUEEZED PAST IN THIS VERY NARROW ALLEYWAY, PAM.
BUT THERE WAS A HIGH WIND SO I CAN'T BE SURE!

Always good to see architecture and woodwork like this Andy. A lot of this about in Spain, I know. Well done.

Not so much from the middle ages in Madrid ... but then Madrid is a relatively young city. Founded by the Moors in the 9th century and expanded somewhat when re-conquered by the Christians in the 11th and 12th, it only really became a great city when it was chosen as one of the four capitals of Spain by Felipe II in the 16th century. He shared the places of government between, Toledo, El Escorial, Valladolid and Madrid. In the next century Madrid became the de facto capital.

A really beautiful old door................I like the textures and colour of the woodwork and the surrounding arch. The ironwork is lovely too. What a great find and capture!

It's down a very narrow alley, Keith, hence the tightness of the angle. The building is famous as the oldest in Madrid. but this door less so ... due to the difficulties of getting a worthwhile photo. But I'm chuffed you like it!

What a nice old door - on the left side the door wing looks like abegnutzer, probably it was opened more often. The iron fittings look very defensive

A wonderful door. It is located on Calle del Codo. I remember there I took a typing exam.

There is also a bike hire shop in that calle!
Yes. You are quite right, Anton. It is also a path I took many times when the academy I first taught for was in Plaza del Cordón.
