Sierra de La Cabrera and prickly pear.

Sierra de La Cabrera and prickly pear.
A good view of the western end of the ridge of the Sierra de La Cabrera from here. Two uploads from here shows the view of the eastern end from up near the summit. The western end is the more challenging for the scrambler but do-able. El Cancho Largo is the highest point and is the summit with the slightly mushroom shape (although in profile it looks like the head and helmet of a Roman soldier!).

When do the flowers come out?

Some time before the fruit!
(Sorry to be flippant!)
I don't think I've timed my mountain walks to catch the flowers, Jenny!
You have got me thinking: I can't see them flowering in midwinter so maybe they flower in late summer (when I'm usually in Cornwall so don't see them) and stay dormant until the sun gets a bit higher in the sky in spring. But just guessing here! I will have to go online and find out! Will report back, if I rememebr to actually do it!!
:o))

An excellent banded composition -- distinct for, mid, and backgrounds, each different but working together to help the eyes take in the view.

My hand once fell against a prickly pear when I was on a cycling holiday in Mallorca many years ago....I never forgot the pain though!! A super shot by the way :))
