Spanish lavender, Sierra de La Cabrera

Spanish lavender, Sierra de La Cabrera
I went to see if I could get some wild tulip and poppy shots yesterday.
No joy.
I got Spanish lavender and orchids instead!
Wonderful walking country and more or less undiscovered with Madrid only 25 miles away!

William Sutherland, ROL/Photo, Angelofruhr, Gabriella Siglinde and 26 other people have particularly liked this photo

Hi Gudrun. In the high mountains this is usually their time but too little rain this year and the poor things are just stunted husks; not worth a photo at all!

Spanish lavender reminds me of miniature roosters on sticks. Doesn't it have a stronger, more herbal scent than English lavender? Maybe not...

Anyway, a harsh, yet intriguing landscape. Excellent composition with this shot!

Well, I couldn't begin to give a sensible response, Diane.
My problem with this is that I have never had the joy of sampling a miniature rooster on a stick. In fact the thought appals me. What do they do? stunt them in the chicken factory (farm isn't the right word), then impregnate them on sticks for sale to a willing public?.
Obviously something lost in the midatlantic linguistic fog!
Please correct me!
Anyway, the aroma is strong, but only when crushed between forefinger and thumb.
(ringfinger and little finger doesn't quite cut the mustard!)

Oh, don't worry about being sensible and don't have nightmares about the rooster factory. If you don't know what English lavender smells like, that's OK, too. French lavender is another case altogether. ...sigh... Oh yeah, I've had the ring finger/little finger problem all my life. It's awkward.

English lavender is strong, Spanish lavender is stronger and French lavender stronger still!
... In my experience. Others will no doubt differ.
Don't you worry about the finger thing, Diane. It only came to mind because I asked some students, 'I am English. You are Spanish. How many fingers do I have?'
Can you guess their various responses?
Clue; everything but the correct answer (and, no, I haven't had an unfortunate accident with a digit or two!).

Hi Peter,
Very many thanks!
Usually you would be right in that there is nobody here. Perhaps I see a dozen bods on a bank holiday (on a 10 hour walk!) but on a week day; no one at all!
However, on this day, there were a few hundred people very close. Just out of camera shot to the left and down the hill a short way is a 'tanatorio', a place for resting the body of a deceased person prior to burial where people can pay their respects and the place was heaving! Only the skill of the photographer kept the 100s of parked cars out of shot!!
Best wishes,
Andy
