Shetland Ponies, Treaga Hill, Portreath, Cornwall
Even the out of bounds and long decommissioned nuclear research station of Nancekuke seen on the horizon at far right can't much detract from the scene.

Thank you, Pam. I think they are Shetland ponies, at least the National Trust info board says they are. And who am I to argue! If you are right (and I will try and find out definitively), I apologise in advance!

Hi Pam.
Yes, as I thought, they are Shetland ponies.
Maybe they are a little bigger (fatter) in the lusher Cornish coastlands than in the bleaker Shetlands!
Best wishes. Andy

Exmoors.... Shetlands are a different shape entirely. I think The NT board needs updating !!!

No apology needed my friend.. the error isnt yours !!

Hi Pam. You have persuaded me to investigate further. On googling Portreath ponies, most of the references are to Shetland ponies but there are one or two (very much in the minority) to Exmoor ponies. You may well be right but I am more confused than ever!

I like Madrid, Antje - especially as my girlfriend and my sister and her family are here too but I do miss Cornwall of course! Have a good week yourself!
Cheers, Andy!

They look a bit big for Shetland ponies but I haven't seen a Shetland for a while so could be wrong. What ever they are they look beautiful in the tranquil landscape.

Shetlands range in size from a minimum height of approximately 28 inches to an official maximum height of 42 inches, Andy. Take a tape measure with you the next time you're in Cornwall. ;-)

Andy Rodker club has replied to Amelia club
I have no reason to doubt you, Amelia. I would like to know though why all the references (well 90% of them) to ponies here are to Shetlands! I can envisage 42 inches (10 hands and 2 inches to its withers) as applying here. Did I make the ponies seem bigger than they really are, I wonder? I still need to get to the bottom of this! :o)

Cornwall really reminds me our Bretagne (after all, it's just on the other side of the ocean!).

I love both. The similarities are not just the scenery (granite and so on) nor the language (virtually the same of course) but the atmosphere, pace of life and earthy attitudes!
These days I don't visit either often enough!

I would only know the difference between an Arabian and a Clydesdale! So, for me, Shetland vs, Exmoor is a fascinating debate! Lovely shot, Andy, they aren't concerned about being spied upon, are they?

Oh, as for the nuclear research station, I would have just assumed that was a castle ruin!
