Whitby full moon

Whitby full moon
Fifty years ago today, US astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans in history to set foot on the Moon, an event watched on television by half a billion people.

Their lunar module, named "Eagle," touched down at 4.18pm ET on 20 July 1969.

Nouchetdu38, John Bezosky Jr., volker_hmbg, Malik Raoulda and 35 other people have particularly liked this photo

The moon looks especially good framed by the ruins! I'd expect a bat to fly into the frame;-)

Dear Amelia, how beautiful ! GO USA!! happy with the info you provided with this lovely shot of the moon Amelia. So proud to be a American! This day is certainly celebrated over here all this week !! at this very moment the TV is staying on this story and the accomplishment this country achieved 50 years ago today! At the White House in Washington D C, two of the astronauts are standing with the President in the Oval Office this morning to be honored for this Historic accomplishment !!!!! Your photo here is awesome for me to enjoy on this date!! . you did a fantastic composition here. !!!

Neil Armstrong's famous, historic words : " One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind " .....

thanks Amelia, Best wishes, "to the Moon and Back" Sarah (my oldest Brother also celebrates his birthday today ):)

Armstrong said later that what he meant to say was, "One small step for _a_ man, one giant leap for mankind!" But what's gone down in history is what he actually said.

A very well framed moon and very timely - celebrations over here on the work of the Oz tracking stations that brought the video to the world.

I saw the movie "The Dish," on the ground receiver in Australia that captured the transmissions. A part of the story I'd never heard, and I don't _think_ there was too much poetic license.

Just a little poetic licence, Steve. The first 8 minutes was actually received at NASA's (now closed) Honeysuckle Creek tracking station near Canberra, as Parkes could not dip low enough.
