It is always peaceful Nick. I don't think it's very well known. Sadly the mill is a ruin.

Very nice scene Rosa; we have an area named Cut Mill in Surrey, never knew of another, until now!

Thank you Roger. Apparently cutt or cut is a middle English word for water channel.

Nicely composed and well captured from a bridge over an old mill stream I assume Rosa,
Sadly the romance of a thatch cottage is outweighed by it's maintenance costs these days

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Roger (Grisly) club
Thank you Roger. The thatched cottage is privately owned now but was occupied by the miller until the 1950's. Sadly the mill is in a very poor state now.

I'm afraid we don't have an area called Cutt Mill.............but I'm working on it :-))

Beautifully composed Rosa. I love the use of the bridge to lead the eye into the image. The lush green colours are lovely and I like the look of the thatched house. I can't tell if the other building is an extension of the house or a separate building, but it looks like it has some great views! Lovely sunshine too.........all we had yesterday was rain and heavy winds.

Rain here today as well :-(

Must try harder Keith ;-)) Thank you for your kind comments on this shot. The timber framed building is an extension. A kind of garden room I would think. They also have a lovely chalet type building in the garden which could possibly be a holiday let. Sadly the mill is in a very poor state now and for the first time since I have been going there, the back of the mill is enclosed and danger warning signs on it.

No rain yesterday but on and off today. Let's hope the sun returns soon :-))

You had me panicking then Rosa. I think, like me, you see lots of fences on your travels and so don't need to ration them. A great shot all the same. Well done.

Regards, Herb

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Herb Riddle club
You're quite right Herb. I got enough fences in pictures at this mill to last be a good long time ;-))
I often forget what day it is, so didn't want to panic anyone! Very pleased you like this shot, thank you. Regards, Rosa.

You must have some good fence images to use this on a Tuesday!! a lovely tranquil spot for a stroll it all looks very well maintained. The lockdown area ends about 150 yards from me not that it makes any difference I wasn't planning on going anywhere, I'll stick with the allotment for the time being. Enjoy your evening Rosalyn

Yes, lots from this location Peter...thought I'd stock up while I can!
The house is well maintained but the mill is in ruin unfortunately. A lot of the building has been fenced off with danger signs. Stay safe & have a good day.

It's a delightful place and shot, Rosa.
Somehow it reminds me of Northern France I knew 40 years ago rather than Wessex, and I wonder if that may be because of global warming?

This is accessed down Marriage Lane and I have always wondered why it was called that.

I have many books on name origins and all I can say is that the more I learn, the less I know. Serious etimologistsand philologists dislike amateurs getting involved because you have to understand at leasts 5 languages perfectly and in all their historic varients, to get to grips with the study of place names. And they are absolutely right! I stopped looking into it years ago, it's a minefield!

A lovely scene with the thatched cottage and all that greenery, not to mention the old bridge giving a great leading line into the image. And yes, my first thought was of Fridays. :-)

An excellent shot, Rosa. I love the juxtaposition of the thatched roof and the tiled roof. The bridge provides the ideal separation between foreground and background. The fence, and then the hedgerow act as lead-in lines, to take the eye to the thatched cottage. A well thought out composition. Cheers, Joe

You have some really beautiful areas to visit in Dorset, Rosa. We're getting a bit bored with the limitations in Shropshire.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
I think we do forget what is on our doorstep sometimes Amelia. Most of the places I go, I know, but have more time to find, and then go down little side streets and new footpaths. Also my near neighbours put some pictures on facebook and that gives me ideas and sometimes I get emails from them asking where it is that I have put pictures on :-)) If the weather is not too windy, I hope to go the The Westbury White Horse at the weekend, but it's very high up, so will depend on the weather.
